WUTHERING HEIGHTS FT. CIDER
I remember bits and pieces of Wuthering Heights from when I read it circa 2011ish? I remember it being kind of a crazy story, and although I haven’t seen Emerald Fennell’s version just yet, I’m already heavily inspired by the period costume I’ve seen in previews here and there. If there’s anything else I remember about the story, it’s that it’s pretty Shakespearean in a lot of ways—two star-crossed lovers that literally * cross paths * and are intermingled with each other all while being with other partners. They also come to (spoiler alert) tragic ends and live on together as ghosts. It’s a weird combo of Romeo & Juliet with a touch of Midsummer confusion. Just funny how (I believe at least) you can always pull out some Shakespeare threads out of other classic works.
Inspired by the modern Wuthering Heights vibes, I put together this lil look for Valentine’s Day. I started with an all-black base— a black turtleneck from Amazon, and paired it with fleece-lined tights and a black mini skirt from Cider. Next, I layered this ruffle lace dress from Cider overtop— which, might I add, is one of my favorite pieces in my collection since you can wear it so many ways—paired under or over pants, skirts, etc. It has that ruffian-collar style detail with bell sleeves that screams Victorian era, and I love it sm! Wrapped up the look with leather booties from Tony Bianco, my Fendi Zucca Shearling Baguette, and a fun fur scrunchie from Rpzl.
“Did my heart love till now? forswear it, sight! For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night."
