COSTUMING FT. BARDOT
This past weekend, I paid a little visit to an event that my middle/high school puts on every year: a stunning benefit reception. When putting my ‘fit together for it, I thought a lot about my time there and what I spent most of that time doing. IYKYK, I was quite into theater in those days, and while I loved actually getting up on stage, I also loved another huge portion of the shows we put on: the costuming. Costuming was literally half the fun to me, whether we were digging through the school’s attic for costumes of the school’s past shows, or gallivanting around thrift stores all over Westchester to find the perfect dress, jacket, or accessories that our character wouldn’t go without. When scrounging through my closet for this look, the feeling was no different; what could I wear that made me feel confident, mature, and fun as I celebrated this past?
The answer was definitely this Esra Mini Dress from Bardot. Matte black fabric and this stunning corset detail had me totally sold. It has a flattering fit but doesn’t squeeze your stomach, making it super comfortable. I paired it with strappy Jeffrey Campbell flower heels (though strappy heels like this would go great too), and a sequin brown bag I picked up at a market in Mexico City a few months back (similar here). Tie that all together with some chunky gold jewelry, a choker, and brown sunnies, and I was off.
