I was recently introduced to one of my new favorite Stephen King characters while finishing The Outsider. Her name is Holly Gibney, she’s very practical, sweet, and doesn’t leave home without her iPad. I absolutely loved King’s take on the modern female detective through Holly. She gives so much more zing to the classic, robotic, detective character arc — she has biting wit and tenacity. Although intelligent and by the book, she entertains the notion that there’s a lot more to the world than she knows — and she's cool with mysteries being bigger than her, bigger than the characters around her and even bigger than the plot. I was super inspired by the mod female detective when putting this look together, and she’ll certainly be top of mind the next time I solve a mystery 😂.

In all seriousness, though, this hooded zip-up jumpsuit is as practical as it gets (very up Holly’s alley), and I love wearing it out on a casual weekend. I paired it with this really cute puffer with a fur trim, and these killer boots from Sam Edelman that I can’t stop wearing. I paired it all with a beige beanie and my Double F Mini.

From one female inspiration to another, here’s one of my favorite Portia quotes from Merchant of Venice.

“The brain may devise laws for the blood, but a hot temper leaps o'er a cold decree.”
