QUEEN OF HEARTS FEAT. NASTY GAL

One of my absolute favorite characters of all time has to be The Queen of Hearts. I think my reasoning for this has to not only do with the fact that she’s absolutely bonkers (and quite stylish, might I add), but because she’s one of those characters that you can pretty much picture in your head off the bat — with little effort. She’s grandiose and maniacal, like the best villains are, but also has a swagger about her that’s not to be messed with. It’s rumored that Lewis Carroll’s character may have been based off of Queen Margaret (that’s right, the very same Queen Margaret who also happens to be in Shakespeare’s Henry VI, “a tiger’s heart wrapped in a woman’s hide”), and support of this notion is made obvious in the War of the Roses, where House Lancaster is represented by a red rose. Obviously the color red is also a the symbol of the Queen of Hearts, and both of the monarchs were (and are) known for their aggressive, no-nonsense attitude, with a growing body count — further tying them together. I love this comparative look at the two because it’s just another great example of how notorious characters can be built off of the notorious characters before them. A circle of life, some might say.

To celebrate this villainous duo, I put together a look that screams no nonsense (minus the aggression lol). I started with this Amazon Fashion blouse, and paired it with a my black denim mini skirt. To take the look to the next level, I added these amazing Nasty Gal off-white cowboy boots and black leather moto jacket. I tied it all together with my vintage wool Fendi and oval sunglasses.

“Thy woes will make them sharp and pierce like mine.”
