PORTRAIT LADY FEAT. SHOP CIDER

One of my favorite parts of visiting museums has to be looking at portraiture of various women throughout the years. While most of the little descriptions share details about who said ladies are, I feel like there’s still quite a shroud of mystery surrounding them. Most look prim and proper as can be, but I can’t help but think they weren’t really that way IRL. There’s always a little expression of edge in their faces — from slight smirks to piercing eyes and deep dimples. For this look, I wanted to mirror all those ladies in portraits at the MET — by edging up a classic style.

I have a love-hate relationship with collared shirts. I’m going to guess this has to be due to the fact that I wore them every school day for seven years straight at my private all-girls middle and high school, LOL. But seriously, I think a collar has to feel right to its wearer. Although typically prim and proper (like the ladies in the portraits!), this edgier cut one from Cider (similar here) definitely feels more right to me than the ones I wore to school. It has a wrapped detail and a crop top length, plus the cableknit pattern gives it a slight nod to preppier attire without going over the top. I paired this with black jeans, combat boots, a white puffed headband, plus my Fendi Baguette. Definitely a lot edgier than all the women in the portraits — and that’s exactly the point. I dress outside the box for them!

“From women's eyes this doctrine I derive: They sparkle still the right Promethean fire;

They are the books, the arts, the academes, That show, contain and nourish all the world.”
