IMPROVISATION FT. AMAZON FASHION

Improvisation is probably one of the most valuable skills I’ve carried with me from my theatre days — and yes, it just so happens that I’m writing this on the day Ariana Grande released her ‘Yes, And!” single. It’s true though, yes, and! is a mantra I’ve consistently lived by in my life, socially and professionally, and I think everyone should practice it (reasonably, of course). Improvisation can relate to anything too: unseasonably warm out in January? Improvise with a lighter sweater and maxi skirt, like I did here!

A little bit about this improvised look is that the skirt is half of a set from Amazon, which I got over the summer. The skirt is a great all-year-round piece, though, and the tank can be worn over a long-sleeve or turtleneck as well. The sweater is sadly no longer avail (it’s Free People!), but linking a similar one here. It actually is a longer length but I loved the look of cropping it when pairing it with the long maxi skirt – see, improvisation! I paired it with my vintage Fendi Baguette, a brown velvet bow, some red lips and these killer Steve Madden boots.

A little improv is good for everyone, and it’s especially useful in times of transition. In fact, a lot of Shakespeare’s plays included moments of improvisation, especially with particular characters like we see in Twelfth Night with Viola. Here’s one of her most famous ‘improvised’ lines:

“I'll do my best To woo your lady: yet, a barful strife! Whoe'er I woo, myself would be his wife!”

[Twelfth Night I.IV]
